An AMAZING band with a complex history. Over 25 people have played in this band over 45 years. I have some of their 15+ Studio albums, but the first three are the mandatory ones. 'Eternally Yours' isn't just the best Saints album, i think it's in the Top 50 greatest rock albums of all time, but because they had no image and no hype none of their albums charted.
Their third album Prehistoric Sounds again sold zilch at the time, but is now highly regarded as being ahead of it's time. LOVE this song...

..Yes, that was the ONLY record by the Saints that got in the UK National Charts. This TOTPs performance was screened the same week they showed the Pistols 'Pretty Vacant' video. I remember watching the Saints and thinking i'd never seen a band looked so bored and underwhelmed by being on TV before.

...in my Feral Yoof, i rather overlooked their third album for not being 'Punky' enough... but i realise now, it's every bit as good as the earlier two. They had matured so much in their songwriting in such a short space of time. There is an excellent Saints Box Set called " ALL TIMES THROUGH PARADISE" which comes in a deluxe or budget version. Both included everything they ever recorded from their Harvest Records/EMI era. This includes B-sides, Demos and live recordings. This is another ACE track from 'Prehistoric Sounds'...

Just realised I've got the first two tracks from Prehistoric Sounds on a comp called "Know Your Product" from the mid-90s
Swing for the Crime and All Times Through Paradise
On your say so, and those top tracks, I'm going to get the album
As you say, it's a departure from the template but what I've heard sounds wonderful
I'll keep an eye out for that box set too

By the by, do you think they were an influence on Hüsker Dü? Just listening now and can hear some similarities (in a good way).

Thanks for the tip Andy
Looking forward to getting stuck into the first three albums and the live in London 77 album - recorded at the Hope and Anchor Live In London, 26th November 1977

ENJOY! it's a beautifully packaged boxset. Ed Kuepper was heavily involved in the whole project. I'd also recommend checking out his band The Aints who released this great album in 2018.

I'm playing Andy's top tip... Prehistoric Sounds The third album by The Saints, released in 1978 The brass aligned to their sound works really well but I can see why it might have struggled to find an audience in 1978 It's great though

The first three albums show a real progression in the music, but maintain the spirit and are all great. Unfortunately, I never saw the band play live before they left for England, but saw Chris Bailey play many times after his return to Oz either solo or with his version of the band. He should have chosen a new name in my opinion. The Paralytic Tonight, Dublin Tomorrow EP and the Monkey Puzzle LP are very good, but I became a bit unintersted after that. Ed Kuepper was/is more adventurous. The Laughing Clowns material and his solo albums were great as were the records with the Yard Goes On Forever. Fantastic live as well. The Aints material is great too. The Ascension LP from 1991 is particularly good.
