Tom's playing in Glasgow in May 2021 virus permitting so that's something to look forward to.
However, even the optimist in me can't see it happening though🙄

He came across as worthy but also like a hip geography teacher

Why are geography teachers such geeks?
I thought Tom looked pretty cool though.
I don't think it would have been the same if he was a Johnny or Lemmy type with that voice.
Can you imagine the Pistols or Motorhead covering 'Glad to be Gay?'

Plus not afraid to experiment with different styles (e.g. Martin)
I'm not a massive fan but they had some great tunes and a Tom's heart was in the right place

Martin is a cheesy song and not one of my favourites to be honest.
I don't think Tom(and the rest of TRB) get enough credit for his RAR days. It's always about the Clash and the fiasco revolving around Sham.
They were the main(white)band of RAR and along with the likes of the Ruts did more for RAR than the Clash ever did.

Saw them first at Lewisham Odeon in 77/78 supported by an all girl punk band called (I think) The Straits, never been able to find out anything about them though. Seen them many times through the years and always been hugely entertaining live. The fist album was a classic and the second largely a stinker. Kustow was without a shadow of a doubt the most underrated guitarist of the scene back then, he's actually had John Mayall as a mentor as he was an old boy of the special needs school where Tom and Danny met as kids. So sad that he became pretty much a recluse for many years before his untimely death in 2019.

Pity the second LP was rather a stinker. Tom's autobiog supposedly due this year so will be an interesting read.

Thanks, Billy. I hadn't heard that song for years. When it started, I thought, 'Oh no. It sounds like 10cc doing "Dreadlock Holiday"', but then it starts to get better. The rant at the end is hilarious and brilliant
