American journalists/authors excel at true crime, Gary Gilmore, Executioners Song by Norman Mailer, Vincent Bugliosi Helter Skelter and In Cold Blood by Truman Capote, three of my favourite books of all time. Going to add this one to the list too, the exception here though is the three accused of an alleged satanic triple murder are probably innocent. Leveritt uncovers incompetent policing and investigative blunders, lack of evidence and possible forced confessions that even then don't fit the crimes timescale. Henry Rollins gives it a glowing review, citing it as an example of all that is wrong with the US judicial system.
