Record Mirror were still putting those vinyl EPs out into the very late eighties even though other music magazines were giving away CDs. The final few were more related to the dance culture which still embraced analogue over digital. I had a 1974 RM Bowie flexi disc in not so long ago, it was a single sided eight track EP which was no more than 60 second snippets of his hits of the time. No idea what purpose it served.

Great stuff PU
Decided to create a separate thread
Surely the best of the bunch was the ATV Love Lies Limp flexi that came free with the last issue of Sniffin Glue
Also I had that Joy Division Komakino flexi - what was that given away with? Think you just had to ask in a record shop and they gave you one if they had any in stock

This one came free with Flexipop
I remember buying it
Bit of a novelty but fun I suppose. Not aged too well

Komakino came out at the same time as Love Will Tear Us Apart. If I recall correctly (in my town at least) the flexi was only in certain stores and given to you if you bought LWTA. My mate got the freebie from Selectadisc but I bought from a chainstore and didn't. Some chancers are trying to sell it on ebay for three figures but it's only an average of a fiver on Discogs

I've still got a few from Smash Hits and Flexipop.
And at least one vinyl 7" from NME.

I remember asking at the counter for a copy of Komakino at Virgin Records in Bristol and being given it. Same with the Crass "Sheep farming in the Falklands" flexi.
Also remember an XTC/Skids flexi and a Squeeze one, both from Smash Hits.

One flexi I sometimes get asked for is The Jam, Pop Art Poem / Boy About Town. Came in a few different colours, blue, yellow and green. Only ever had one in and it went for a tenner.
Let's be honest about these things, they were paper thin, creased easily and the sound quality was awful. Some even had a circle on the label where you were advised to put a heavy coin to stop it slipping on your turntable.

I think(to begin with)the concept was way beyond yer average teenage Glesga Street punk anyway.🤔
