These cockroaches have pulled out of Leeds and Reading just to appear on a foreign TV show. www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-62561588I bought a ticket for next year's North West Calling last week (Sham, Test Tubes, ANWL, UK Subs) as I was buying I was wondering which band would pull out. Sham pulled out of the same event a few years ago. It seems bands increasingly look for any excuse to pull out of gigs at short notice . It's not COVID causing all this it's just selfish bastards and hissy fits. Morrissey would you believe is notorious for pulling gigs at short notice. I don't know how these people get away with this. You can only hope that their selfishness and narcissism rebounds on them at some point. If I was a promoter I'd wanna sue people who pull gigs to appear on television.

You won't be missing anything with Sham, their act consists of not much more than Pursey singing a couple of lines and holding the mic out for the crowd to finish the song, lazy.
I always endeavoured to use an agency when booking bands, it cost more but the artists were then tied into a contract and couldn't just cancel on a whim. And if they did, the promoter was reimbursed all incidental pre gig costs, pa hire, ticket and poster printing etc.

I saw Sham about a decade ago and enjoyed it enormously. Which I wasn't particularly expecting.
Pulling gigs just seems to be another sign of the absolute contempt some bands, venues and ticket suppliers have for the people who pay their wages.

‘You’re doing it purely for the exposure’: why many musicians can no longer afford to tour Artists are cancelling live dates owing to soaring costs, venue bottlenecks, Brexit and the pandemic. Can touring ever be viable again?
The received wisdom directed at musicians was simple: streaming means you’re not earning from recordings any more? Make it up on the road! Get out there and tour, like musicians used to, then you’ll be fine! That has proven to be a myth. In recent months, an increasing number of acts have announced that they are cancelling tours, or scaling down their live commitments because they simply can’t afford to play.....

Money was made from merchandise. There should be laws to stop venues taking 25% of those profits but most bands live of that money rather than bums on seats. Just reading Martha Wainwright's book and she was getting $600 a night in merch sales from touring supporting her brother, that's not to be sniffed at.

Let's not forget that a great deal of merch sales in the past were carried out with cash. Plus, a venue only gets a percentage of what the seller declares they took that night.

100% Cancelling a week out really fucks over a lot of other people in addition to the artists and ticket holders Late May in Scotland is insane timing and location too.

I would imagine the musicians have to get at least half their fee? As they would be too late to set up another gig.
