Don't know anything about LIFE except their new album North East Coastal Town is Resident's album of the week.... The Hull post-punksters remain razor sharp as they carve up a widescreen, brooding tour de [LIFE]-force that maintains their trademark swagger & ear for addictive pop energy & guitar hooks.
You probably already know our love for this blistering band. We’ve talked about them loads. We’ve blasted them on the shop stereo a plenty. We’ve been at many, many gigs (including our first post-lockdown freedom bust out). We’ve watched them grow & couldn’t be more excited to be showcasing their brilliant 3rd album - ‘ North East Coastal Town‘ - via this specially crafted Dinked Edition.
LIFE are anchored by their hometown; the geography, history and community has always been the inspiration behind their creativity and on their third LP, North East Coastal Town, the band pay homage to Hull and its folk. North East Coastal Town is mature; it finds the band at the height of their powers. “Hull and the surrounding area runs through our DNA and has shaped us, weathered us, empowered us, embraced us and made us feel accepted. North East Coastal Town is our love letter to the city.
The album is an ode to kinship and relationship with its musical and lyrical spine picking out themes of love, desire, beauty, horror, chaos, pride and most importantly the sense of belonging. Upon writing and recording this album it was important to us that this sense of belonging was also reflected in the album’s craft and therefore we used locally based studios, equipment, gear, and the community around us to establish what it means to belong in a North East Coastal Town.”

I've been a big fan of LIFE for a few years now. Seem them live a few times, inc Rockaway Beach, where they were fantastic and return for the next one in Jan 2023.
Have tickets for them at Joiners Arms in October, and am debating the Brighton show earlier in the week.
They're playing Resident next week as an instore gig, although I'm seeing them at Pie & Vinyl in Southsea as it's closer to me.
I'd recommend their two previous albums, Popular Music and A Picture of Good Health, which are a bit punkier than what I've heard of the new album.

Great stuff Thanks wardance - good to know they have won you over I've got my tickets for Rockaway Beach 2023 so will definitely be seeing them there I think I'll give the instore a miss but tempted by the Patterns gig later in the year if I'm free that night By the by, I used to live in Southsea (back in the mid 80s) and there was no record shop there then so amazed to discover there's one now. I must get back there. Have some very fond memories of Pompey from my time there

Their track 'Excites Me' was used on Match of the Day for a while last season Oh yeah. That's great. Excites me, for sure. I'd recommend their two previous albums, Popular Music and A Picture of Good Health, which are a bit punkier than what I've heard of the new album Thanks again Will follow up on those top tips. Didn't realise they had such an extensive back catalogue Popular Music (the tune) is another banger.

LIFE are definitely worth seeing live, and I've just bought tickets for the Patterns gig, so if you do go it would be good to say hello. Pies and Vinyl? What more can one want!

I've been enjoying my delve into the LIFE back catalogue
This is from the new album and is an instant hit
Also interesting to hear the evolution from pleasing noisy thrash merchants into something a little more sophisticated. It's all good though

Thoroughly enjoyed LIFE's instore performance at Pie & Vinyl this afternoon. They did about 6 or 7 stipped back songs from the new album.

Not as instant as their first two, but all the better for it. Looking forward to seeing them in October, and then at Rockaway Beach.
