Hard to believe it's been 47 years since I last saw this in the pictures(where did all those years go?)and going to the flicks back then was a totally different experience.
Drinking, smoking, usherettes, punch ups, punters firing choc ices and lit fags from the balcony into the stalls and that was before the 1st film came on!
Seeing this in Glasgow's Imax was a bit bitter sweet as there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then.
This was packed out for a Sunday afternoon filled with mostly parents and grandparents with their kids. We told the attendant that we were old enough to see this when it came out in 1975 and she just gave us the usual Tik Tok expression of'when the fuck was 1975'.
As for the movie. We've seen it many times before but it's an absolutely tour de force in acting, characterisation and directing on a huge screen which made it more memorable.
Especially from Robert Shaw who died in 1978 aged 51. Hard to believe I'm older now than he was when he made this film.
Such is the passage of time🤨
10/10

Robert Shaw rules that film
Did the bit when the face floats into the hole of the underwater boat still scare the bejesus out of everyone?

Never seen it to be honest.
I think Murray Hamilton-who played the Mayor- is long gone sadly.
Movie Trivia Folks. Both Murray and Richard Dreyfuss were in a movie together before Jaws, anyone know what it was?

I'd love to see it again on a big screen. I got taken to see it by my aunt when I was 10. I certainly remember jumping out of my seat when the head popped out. I'll always watch it when it's on tv, it's that good. I read the book not long after, or at least attempted to, as my teacher at the time ( Mrs Todman, Dorridge Junior School ) rang up my mum and told her I shouldn't be reading it as it wasn't suitable. And so began my problem with authority

No, because as we were queueing round the block at the Nottingham ABC, two dickhead mates who were coming out of the previous showing proceeded to ruin it by telling us the plot.

I read the book too which in some ways is a different kettle of fish(ha!)from the film. My school was definitely a bit more open-minded as they didn't mind us reading stuff like James Herbert, Stephen King etc
