Seminal moment in TV.
40 years ago next week.
Prophetic too.

I always thought Bleasdale was very perceptive in highlighting the cruelty of Thatcherism with this programme.
I left school with 2-levels and went straight on the buroo. The poverty in Glasgow has always been appalling but back then it was even worse.
Most kids were emaciated and I can remember very few fat people. I also remember looking down my street and there was not one motor other than the coal man.
Grim and almost post apocalyptic.
Even now even the least politically aware people would never vote Tory or if they did they would never admit it to anyone. It just wasn't done.

I remember people quoting it at school when it was first on but I never saw it until about twenty years ago.

Loved it first time 'round. May have to revisit it. I bought the DVD box set over 10 years ago but dunno where it got to. If the BBC had any sense of itself, they'd put it up on I-player. Anyone who has ever been totally skint will relate to it.

I remember people quoting it at school when it was first on but I never saw it until about twenty years ago. Aye, 'gissa a job' was everywhere back then.😃 We watched it on our rented telly where you had to stick in 50p in the meter for about 5 hours viewing.

The last episode of One Summer is set in Southport. We used to go there a lot as kids. It shows the fair near the beach which I don't think is there now. They also had a model village (with football stadium of course!)
This is the first episode don't know if they've got the whole series.
