ADAM + THE ANTZ - FACTORY OF NOISE Manchester Factory 21/7/1979 (Bootleg Lp) A few years ago, a small gang of 'original era' Antz fans (me included) clubbed together to buy from Ebay a mixing desk tape of this gig, at the legendary Factory in Manchester in 1979. Dunno if there was more than one tape in circulation, but it's just been released on Bootleg, so i thought... I NEED TO HEAR THIS. There are three different pressings of this. I went for this 'splatter' pressing. Only 20 copies made. Bootlegs by the very nature of their source are notoriously shite in quality... but this is GREAT!! View Attachment20 copies Well done Andy That must feel great What are the songs on it?

it did cross my mind that they might be telling fibbs about just how limited the pressings are on this record, but i doubt it somehow. There is no official live releases of the original Adam + The Antz, and i knew this recording was from a mixing desk tape, which is rare for Bootlegs, so for me this is a 'must have'

What an artefact
I just had a look on YouTube to see if any of it had been posted
Alas no
This video is from New Years Eve 1979 in Camden - ropey quality n all but you can still tell they're on red hot form
According to the poster, it was the last ever gig for the pre- Marco Antz...

I converted a couple of tracks direct from the vinyl to MP3 so that a friend of mine could compare it to this Blog download. I loaded both into itunes - the vinyl 'Boot' wins out for me, in terms of the clarity... so it was money well spent.

What a lucky person you are Andy
I see her from time to time at punk gigs in Brighton - she still loves the music

Have you read it Andy?
If so, what's it like?
That review is encouraging....
All that aside, Blood, Sweat, Leather & Tears is an exhilarating read and one that captures the confusion, newness and sheer damn fun of the early punk scene.
This is the second book I have read recently that mirrors a lot of my own experiences and mentions a lot of the same bands and records that so captured me in my own misspent youth, the other being the first part of Bobby Gillespie’s Tenement Kid. When reading these books, the writing sparked lots of very similar memories of my own and both are extremely relatable.

...as i have mentioned on here - i have written a review of the book for the next issue of Wired Up Fanzine, Lord Of E But, i can say here, that for some people, the 'Pulp Fiction' aspect of the book may annoy/confuse them as that Louder Than War review concurs. I am a bit biased, in that i know Johna. I honestly enjoyed it though. Especially as i never got to see the original band and Johna does paint a vivid picture of what those early gigs were like

Thanks Andy - my ageing brain must have forgotten that key piece of intel
Please let us now when that issue is out
I'm tempted to give it a go
I did manage to see the Ants back in the day a few times, at least once with Jordan doing Lou. They were great.
One time was with The Lurkers on the bill which was particularly scary as there was some extreme aggro between the Ant contingent and The Lurkers fans. Gawd knows why but that's how it was back then. Both groups seemed to know how to look after themselves when it came to the auld ultraviolence.
