Interesting article. Thanks, Stu! It misses the perennial controversy over whether "God Save the Queen" outsold "First Cut is the Deepest" but was kept in the number two slot for political reasons, however.

I've got a few of these singles: 6, 14, 29, 35, 47, 48, 70, but the only one I bought new on release was 6. They are all good in their own way, but I would only want to hear 29 every ten years or so

The omission of this is laughable

Looks like that Guardian chart was compiled by a load of hipsters....pissed on their Brewdog.

^Think of all the shite he has.....π And has yet to buy! Even more so now as the modern 'charts' are likely to have even worse shite in themπ

When was the last Guinness Book of Hit singles published? The last one I bought was in 1991.
At one time almost everyone knew what the number one was. No one has given a shit for decades.

The last number one I remember was in the 80's sometime. Maybe Madonna or something.π€
Can't remember a single No 1 at all from the 90's...π
