The third album Whammy was a disappointment. It was that age where bands discovered synths and drum machines and for a group that had a previous brilliant sound, they lost their way a little. In between Wild Planet and Whammy there was an extended EP Mesopotamia, which shows them as their most experimental, producer David Byrne going overboard on the mixing desk.

Yes, agree with all of that
Also avoid the gimmicky Party Mix album that came out just before Whammy
The band's commercial peak was the Cosmic Thing album in 1989 off the back of Love Shack being a big hit
I seem to remember it was pretty good if v commercial
Roam is a good tune and whilst Love Shack is hard not to enjoy I wouldn't care if I never heard it again in my life
I couldn't tell you about any of the other albums, for whatever reason they passed me by
I never saw them live but suspect they would have been splendid
Did anyone see them play live?

I really should listen to more B-52's but I haven't.🤔 Dunno why, never really got around to it. They looked and sounded really good. Time for further investigation I think. You're right about 'Love Shack' though and that other mince that Kate Pearson did with REM 'Shiney Happy People'.😄 The only thing worse than it is pissed people dancing to it at wedding receptions....

Their biggest selling record, 'Cosmic Thing' that includes Love Shack is actually a good album IMO This song brings back good memories of when we used to play that album on cassette in the publishing office i was working at in the early 90s

I notice a farewell to he B52s in am earlier comment, but it seems they're still playing.
But maybe only by presidential command, or for visiting Aussie prime ministers:

Does anyone ever truly retire?
Way back, Sinatra did retirement tour after retirement tour
I daresay Music Hall artists were doing the same thing

Way back, Sinatra did retirement tour after retirement tour I daresay Music Hall artists were doing the same thing It's an Australian saying 'To do a Melba' meaning to say you are retiring and do a farewell tour, TV show, lecture or whatever, and then do another, and another ...
Named after Dame Nellie Melba, opera singer
