I started to when it first came out but lost interest. I like the period though so will have to give it a second chance.

The are three soundtrack albums. Bryan Ferry has a song on one. I think he might actually appear in it.
The music is pretty good though obviously mainly in German.

Just finishing the final season.
It ends in 1933 when you-know-who took over. Generally I'm not really interested in period dramas but I'm very interested in Weimar Germany which of course some of the earliest punks, like Siouxsie, were. There is an awful lot going on, sometimes several storylines at once, some of which are part of the overall arc, which is elements of the military establishment plotting to return the country to monarchy and using the Nazi Party to do it - thinking they can dupe them. The Nazis, in the shape of the street-based SA are largely absent until series 4. Though obviously, they are lurking and in a sense omnipresent to anyone who knows anything about German history. There are a few strange sidestories which so far haven't been explained. It verges on supernatural at times and the occult volkisch element of the era is alluded to.
It's made me think freshly about the era and makes you appreciate that Germany was very very far from being majority Nazi and that it's incredibly stupid to stereotype Germans. The tragedy that followed 1933 is sometimes ascribed to German unimaginativeness when actually, and chillingly, it was precisely their endless imagination, dreaming and search for meaning which the war and Holocaust were major by-products of I would suggest.

Great review Stu.π Will give it a go. A lot of British people have to get over their default bigotry regarding German people.

I love Germany Really admire a lot of things about the place, the people and the attitudes One example, the way they organise their football. No way would a German team, not even Bayern, sign up for any breakaway European Super League plus entry is affordable and fans have a real voice. No sportswashing in sight (minor exception Red Bull's involvement)

^ They don't seem to have as many imperial hangups as the British
I suppose that comes from the fact that a lot of the country was razed to the ground and then dissected.
I haven't been to a football match yet but it's on.the agenda the next time we visit.ππ

Watched the first 2 episodes earlier and I'm hooked. If it wasn't for the early start, I'd be up all night tuning in to it.
I'm really impressed with the production values and acting so far.π

Nearly finished Series 3 and I'm really enjoying it.π
A lot more interesting than most British cop shows as it's representative of so much more due to the period it's set in.
I think Bryan Ferry makes an appearance in series 2 at the club incidently.

Finished all 4 series of this over the holidays and really enjoyed it.π
Works well as a film noir cop show, a political thriller set against the machinations of various groups on the extreme right, the old establishment and the left and a portrayal of the German Republic during the 1st World War and the rise of Hitler.
Lots of great performances and storylines which all sort themselves out in the end
Volcker Bruch and Liv Lisa Fries as Inspector Rath and Charlotte are the two leads who give exemplary performances but they're all good.
However, right wing liberals beware-theres dancing, sex between men and women, women and women and men and men and around 10,000 fags smoked per episode so if you're a bit of a millenial woose, you should give it a miss.
Just a pity it's ended......π
10/10.π

Sounds great
I read the first few books but never completed them - might go back to them. Enjoyable enough and with a good period feel
I don't have Sky but might get a Now subscription and binge it - also want to watch White Lotus, just don't have that much time for TV viewing, and prefer documentaries and footie

It's so much more than I've described too.π
A lot of UK telly shows are insipid and politically and socially conservative(Doc Martin anyone?)
I find it difficult to 'binge' watch anything as it's a huge undertaking but the episodes come in at around 45 minutes so watching 2 or 3 at a time is probably the best way to do.
There's talk about a 5th series as the 4th stops at 1931, I reckon they could squeeze in another before 1933.
That would round off the show perfectlyπ
