I actually like the My Beauty album. His reading of I Can't Tell The Bottom From The Top is a heartbreaking, angst ridden plea for understanding. Though the public is rarely empathetic to blokes parading around in stockings and a sock stuffed jockstrap.

Even though he looks silly, it's the music I never liked even when he was with Dexy's.
He comes across too as someone who has an inflated opinion of his own 'talent'.

Even though he looks silly, it's the music I never liked even when he was with Dexy's. He comes across too as someone who has an inflated opinion of his own 'talent'. A lot of people hold that view - and, to an extent I can understand it despite having a very different opinion I actually like the My Beauty album. His reading of I Can't Tell The Bottom From The Top is a heartbreaking, angst ridden plea for understanding. Though the public is rarely empathetic to blokes parading around in stockings and a sock stuffed jockstrap. I'm a fan of the album - and, more generally, of his music I always enjoy cover versions and Kevin's sincerity shines through on quite a few of the covers By the by... ... My Beauty is getting a rerelease... Originally released in 1999, “My Beauty” was the second solo album from Dexys/Dexys Midnight Runners’ lead singer Kevin Rowland. The album was mostly unfairly received by critics at the time, but in the years since has come to enjoy cult status. This reissue is the first time “My Beauty” has been available on vinyl and on CD with its originally intended track-listing. www.cherryred.co.uk/product/kevin-rowland-my-beauty-limited-edition-pink-vinyl-lp/

Jon the Impaler who used to post on the old board said that Kev used to stay across the road from him and was a complete bellend.
His stories were hilarious and his posts were always original and entertaining so come back Jon👍

Yeah, Jon was a good egg. I don't have any contact details for him and never met him in person, so cannot think of anyway to tell him where we are now.
I've met Kevin a few times. Complete bellend might be overstating it but he's a bizarre bloke and very easily offended as I once discovered when, in a conversation, I referred to his "heyday"
This was c2005 and he angrily replied "this is my heyday right fucking now" and, with that, turned on his heels and marched out of the venue which was hosting a Northern Soul night never to be seen again.

Well that doesn't exactly endear me to him.
Looks like Jon was right.
Maybe Jon will see the link on the old TP board Nige?
Let's hope so and many of the old members too.

Words never to be used with any renowned ageing musician: Heyday Prime Height of career Pinnacle
And when reminiscing with the musician please refrain from saying: 'When You Had Hair' 'You used to really draw the crowds back then' 'It's Scarborough, not the fucking O2'

What about...? Gots to say I much prefer... There There My Dear ...to the overplayed Geno And the lyrics still resonate (say what you like, Kev can pen a searing lyric)

Every track on the Young Soul Rebels debut for me. I'm sure Rowland is somebody I'd never want to meet but that first album is the work of a tortured genius. From Dance Stance where Kevin lists all the Irish authors in a riposte to the 'all Paddy's are thick' jokes to the closing There, There My Dear, another list of erudite writers in an attack on the music media.
