Just watching the peerless Danny Baker on Word In Your Ear, he talks about Zappa being attacked by a punter at the Rainbow Theatre in 1971 and falling 11 feet into the orchestra pit. I don't think I'd ever heard of this incident. Although of course Patti Smith once had a similar accident which put her out of action for over a year as this incident at the Rainbow did to Zappa.
I don't know any of his music apart from this song:

I have the Joe's Garage and Sheik Yerbouti albums, but he's too instrumental and Jazzy for me. You could probably make a decent 80 minute CD comp though, but stick to the shorter traditional songs than the boring freak outs.
