That sounds right up my street Thanks Stu The Gold review – a 24-carat drama about one of the UK’s most shocking robberiesThe 1983 Brink’s-Mat robbery was the largest score in British history – and now it’s been turned into a hugely entertaining BBC series. Prepare to enjoy some incredible retro sets The Brink’s-Mat legend only grows in diverting retelling The Gold (BBC One), a six-part series from Neil Forsyth, creator and writer of Scottish crime series Guilt. It began in 1983 – as depicted in the opening scene – when six men in balaclavas burst into Brink’s-Mat secure storage facility near Heathrow airport. They intended to steal £1m in cash, but instead came away with about £26m of gold bullion (equivalent to £90m today). At the time, it was the largest score in British history.www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2023/feb/12/the-gold-review-a-24-carat-drama-about-one-of-the-uks-most-shocking-robberies

Apparently the depiction of Kenneth Noye has come in for criticism given he was later convicted of murder following the infamous road rage murder on the M25 in 1996. Many say he was v unpleasant and not like the depiction in this series.
I still haven't finished ep one but the way the Hugh Bonneville gets the info out of the security guard is a classic scene
Only heard New Order so far on the soundtrack - worked well though

For Fucks Sake, some middle class script writers masturbatory eulogy to pure and simple vermin scum.Kenneth Noye murdered an innocent motorist, leaving his girlfriend fearing for her life. One of the witnesses to the murder was later killed by a hitman, undoubtedly on behalf of Noye and John Palmer. These were very evil people.

Got to say this is really well done
It absolutely does not glorify the villains
Primary theme is money laundering and, to a lesser extent greed and corruption
Brinks Mat is a fascinating case

Finished The Gold now. V good, and hats off to whoever chose the music...The Cure, Joy Division, Bunnymen, New Order
I hope they do another series as there's a separate story to be told
The real DCI Brian Boyce really was a good cop, in addition to being the commander of the task force that investigated Brink’s-Mat, Boyce went on to become head of corporate security for Hill Samuel merchant bank
While there in April 1995, he voluntarily assisted with the Macpherson inquiry into the Stephen Lawrence’s murder case, outraged by the injustice of the initial investigation, and by the insensitive police treatment of Stephen’s mother Doreen and key witness Duwayne Brooks
Boyce described the Lawrence murder probe as “indefensible” lacking “investigative rigour” and put in writing that “racial prejudice, either conscious or unconscious” could not be ruled out. Without wanting publicity for his work, which some members of the Met had seen as a betrayal, Boyce personally gathered evidence on the Lawrence murder suspects and was reported to have used his connections to make key documents accessible to the Lawrence family’s legal team, helping in their shamefully long fight for justice
