I had a pm from roguepunk, it arrived about an hour ago saying he was leaving the board, he'd deleted his account by the time I picked up the message so I had no chance to reply
Mate, if you do venture back and read this I was gonna say in my reply that I'm very sorry to see you go. It's been a bloody long time what with the old talkpunk board and all.
All the best mate.
DM.

Yes, I noticed he'd deleted his account
He's a lively presence and it won't be the same without him

Was there no final post where he smashes his guitar?

Some of you might miss him, I certainly won't. I blocked his posts months ago after he attributed a post to me and attacked me with vitriol, it was actually from another member on the board. I asked him to apologise but I was met with silence. His attacks on other members political views bordered on the ridiculous, everyone was right wing (even far right) except him.
My take on all this was he was late to the original punk party and an envy of most people, bands, events pre 1980 led him to label all that as reactionary.

Yeah, all true too PU
A shame he often seemed so intent on attacking other posters
When he wasn't doing that he could also be quite constructive and insightful
Labelling everyone else here far right (except himself) was something I could never get my head round

As Doug said he could start an argument on his own in a phone box .
He 's a lively presence and a man with a very unusual worldview which kept discussions lively , though his obsession with everyone being fascist was bordering on obsessive . I was never totally sure if he really meant everythign he said or if it was some kind of online personality that he 'd created ?

I think some people need to keep away from certain subjects. Like alcohol, politics makes some people maudlin, some conversational and some violent. The need to be "right" and refusal to accept any other viewpoint than one's own is not debate, it is purely rhetoric. There did seem some genuine dislike of England, especially London and the initial Punk scene and those who were around at that time. The whole Clash thing was bizarre to say the least. Still, I may be first up against the wall when the revolution starts unless Mick Jones is handy.

Tbf anybody can start an argument alone in a phone box because there’s a phone in there, lol! He was my favourite TP’er and I miss him dearly.

Although I didn't exactly march in lock-step with him ideologically I'm sorry to see him go, as he could usually be relied upon to take a robust position on topics which stimulated discussion.

Yes, the place isn't quite the same without him. He provided a much-needed jolt of energy. On the downside, he seemed to get a lot more strident between the old site and the new one, and was becoming quite rude to certain posters – mainly people he didn't know well and hadn't interacted with over many years.
The problem is that this is the second time he's departed and it's not a trick one can pull repeatedly. The first couple of times, your mates will plead with you to come back. After that, they'll conclude it's going to keep happening and just shrug their shoulders.

he seemed to get a lot more strident between the old site and the new one I thought he'd mellowed. He called me a 'nazi' and threatened to kick me with his steel toecap boots on the old site for taking a centrist position on some topic or another. Happy days
