A siren will go off on nearly every smartphone in the UK on Sunday 23 April, the government has announced. The 10 seconds of sound and vibration at 15:00 BST will test a new emergency alerts system.... www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-65178240

I've heard about this, someone was suggesting it was evidence of impending nuclear war.

I've heard about this, someone was suggesting it was evidence of impending nuclear war. That's encouraging

Something similar (but implemented quite differently) exists here in the Isle of Man. There are warning sirens that can be heard all over the island; they're regularly tested and have a mournful sound like World War 2 air-raid sirens. They exist in case there's ever a nuclear leak from Sellafield, with a westerly wind, in which case everyone would very quickly have to assemble to take anti-radiation medication. I live in the closest possible position to Sellafield, as can be seen from the map below – right on the seafront at Ramsey. (Bizarrely, the map has Sulby in entirely the wrong place – it's actually between Kirk Michael and Ramsey, in the north west of the island.) www.google.im/maps/search/sellafield+location/@54.0155329,-4.4103055,9z
