Straights looked like that. Cool people had peroxide Kirk Brandon barnets, check shirts and ripped Levis.

As one of the commenters says….
….assumes all the boys wanted to look like Ian Curtis (that hair and shirt), when in fact they wanted to look like Ian McCulloch, Kirk Brandon or Edwyn Collins
Or in my case Bowie on the cover of Low

I never got casuals - who wants to look like a golfer?
Still ever since Brands have ruled the roost of a significant section of the fashion market
Stick a Stone Island, or whatever, badge on it and people will buy anything

I can't stand Stone Island. The casual style became boring around 1984 when people started wearing Armani. In Liverpool and Manchester they started wearing unbranded jumpers and semi flared jeans.
Still got some very nice 80s style Fila, Lacoste and Tacchini jackets.

The casual style became boring around 1984 Likewise the 'Casual sound' Their footwear was popular in the rave days. Chevignon, Avirex and Chipie were happening apparel brands too.
