Nine robots recently appeared at an AI press conference at Geneva along with their creators, but the robots did most of the talking. I only watched part of the event but journalist Alan Kohler's description of what happened there was creepy enough.

Pornography drives a lot of tech innovations, from Super 8mm reels, the home hand held video camera and 50% of internet visits. The very fact that these robots here are female shaped, what actual point do the manufactured breasts have? It all points to a load of nerdish blokes struggling to get real girlfriends perhaps....

This technology isn't all that new. As far back as 2012, the experimental French progressive rock band Art Zoyd issued an album that was a rock opera with the vocals entirely performed by robots.

I'll always remember Max Headroom for the infamous "broadcast intrusion". They still haven't managed to track down those responsible.
