My general experience is behaviour is pretty good but I do occasionally come across people chatting through sets which is very annoying, and quite confusing
The phone thing can be quite contentious. I do it a bit. 30 seconds of video here and there or a few photos. I like a record.
I’ve always been a chronicler. Used to take photos as a teenager. Wish I’d taken more in hindsight
I do wonder at excessive phone use at gigs. I’ve seen people recording entire sets which seems bonkers. A few mementos is all anyone needs I’d have thought

Depends on the artist playing and the crowd they attract. The Scarborough Open Air Theatre put on N Dubz, ten arrests and a (minor) stabbing. My own personal experience at the venue, Blondie, dozens of completely pissed up women falling all over the place and abusing the stewards, blokes urinating in the aisles as they couldn't be arsed to walk down to the loos. The Cult, no problems whatsoever, 3000 strong crowd just there to groove.
This is not a new thing. I remember the early punk gigs in Nottingham, everyone pogoing along and having a brilliant time. Then came the Sham and Exploited years, where a section of the crowd would act like what the tabloids had said we were.
One thing I am noticing, especially in the bigger venues, is that the price of drink is so extortionate, punters are drinking heavily outside before the show and coming in wasted.

Agree it's quite variable
Simon Price, in that article, seems to think class As are playing their part too. Drugs were also being blamed on a slight resurgence in football violence too a while back

I will never understand paying money for tickets to a gig and then talking through it barely watching the band.
Phone use is nuts at shows, too. I'll take a few pics for myself early on during the first song or two...then the phone goes in my pocket.

TBH I'd have no issues with bouncers knocking shallow ****s out for filming the show on their phone and taking selfies.

People who insist on bringing a back pack to gigs and wearing them like some kind of fashion statement really grind my gears.
If they have travelled long distance to attend, then fair enough... i get it. But i doubt most of them have. And most venues have a cloak/baggage room. When i saw Devo last year in London, some tall knobhead came and stood right in front of me, swinging his backpack and blocking my view, so i held my fist out to cause a deliberate collision and he soon got the message
I don't mind if people take pictures on their phones of our band when we play... but yes, recording the whole thing rather than watching is nuts! Social Media... Influencers etc have done alot of damage.
