Wasn't going to bother with this but picked it up in a charity shop for £2. Gorgeous book, beautiful quality paper used, a lovely heavy affair and have to say a very enjoyable read so far.

I'm now listening to this, narrated by Debbie herself She sounds pretty bored throughout which is a shame The whole thing seems to be at a remove. Straight relating of events with no commentary or emotional insights It's still early days but I'm pretty underwhelmed so far What were your final thoughts Doug? Anyone else read it? What did you make of it?

Maybe because my expectations were low, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Thanks Doug
Not touched by its presence yet
And certainly no rapture
But, based on your encouraging comments, one way or another I'll get through it

I'm now listening to this, narrated by Debbie herself She sounds pretty bored throughout which is a shame Books are often cited as superior to movies, for example, because the reader has to use their imagination to bring the scenes to life. In this case, it seems the tone of the narrator has diminished the overall effect.
I have never listened to a book, but it seems you, Lord Emsworth, do it all the time. What is your general experience? I seem to recall you enthusing about JCC narrating his book. Do you think they are usually good? Fifty-fifty? Or what?

Most audiobooks are good to excellent
Can't praise JCC's book highly enough - helps he so ridiculously engaging
Often it's actors who do the narration and they can really bring a book to life
Debbie's memoir has picked up now we're into the Blondie years
She's so deadpan though and, as she acknowledges, most of her memories tend to be fairly dark and miserable
She's just been raped by a mugger and just shrugs and takes it in her stride. She's glad it was pre AIDS and more worried about the guitars he stole

I tend to mainly read rather than listen, although JCC was an exception, purely down to his voice.

Yes Doug, understandably so
I always have a book I'm a reading and a book I'm listening to at any given time
I'm starting to get more into Debbie's book. The Blondie years are in full effect now and so it's more interesting to me
A good editor could have made it so much more compelling though, and considerably shorter

By the by, what's with all the fan art? There's pages and pages of fan art that comes with this book - loads of it, most perfectly fine but... why?

Finished now
I found it underwhelming and unrevealing
Far too much about her post-Blondie life and work too
Hard core fans only - and even then be prepared to be unenlightened
