One of the casualties of war has been the Guardian "cartoonist" Steve Bell, who has been sacked for submitting a supposedly antisemitic drawing. Whilst Bell strikes me as a pretty vile creature – his cartoons, none of which are funny and few of which even make sense, dehumanise politicians he dislikes in the worst possible ways: with anuses for faces, wearing nappies and smeared with faeces – I don't see anything antisemitic about this image. I suppose it's attempting to portray Netanyahu as a surgeon excising what he believes to be the tumour of Gaza from the body of Israel, but then why is he wearing boxing rather than surgical gloves? However, attempting to make sense of a Bell cartoon is often an exercise in futility, as some of them have been so bizarre that they have made me wonder whether he has psychological problems. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12633731/Guardian-sacks-cartoonist-Steve-Bell-anti-Semitic-Benjamin-Netanyahu-cartoon.html

The real question is that when a bunch of terrorist scum murder, torture, kidnap and slaughter Israelis, do Israel then have a right to do whatever they want in retaliation, including breaching the Geneva Convention, without the slightest criticism from anyone lest they be accused of being anti-Semitic. Add in the biased attacks on the BBC for not using the terrorist word, when ironically, neither was Fox News who were also referring to Hamas as "militants" (I checked), and you have a whole mess of hypocrisy and double standards that sometimes beggars belief.

Very true, Doug. My own yardstick for whether a cartoon is antisemitic is whether it resembles (either in content or execution) something that could have been published in Der Stürmer. Thus I don't consider this Steve Bell cartoon to be antisemitic, but the one in the link below clearly is, as it is based on the Nazi trope that Jews are the hidden puppet masters of the world. It's also completely untrue, as Netanyahu, whilst he gets a surprisingly smooth ride from other world leaders, simply doesn't exercise that kind of influence. www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/cartoon/2012/nov/15/israel-gaza

Hard to take sides on this one tbh.
Hamas' f***-witted barbarity has legitimised the coming theft of what was left of the country they claim to be fighting for.

Hard to take sides on this one tbh. Hamas' f***-witted barbarity has legitimised the coming theft of what was left of the country they claim to be fighting for. "CLAIM" is the important word though. Hamas has one objective only and that is to stop the normalisation of relationships between Israel and other Muslim countries and to create a new generation of Israel loathing terrorists, that was the reason they attacked Israel and that is the reason they told Palestinians in Gaza not to flee, they want them to die in their thousands to refresh the enmity against Israel which has been waning for a long time in other ME countries and to make themselves valid again. Israel knows that and they know they are playing into Hamas hands but just can't stop themselves doing what they are going to do, spurred on by the furthest right elements like Ben Gvir who describes Gazan's as "human beasts".

Hard to take sides on this one tbh. Hamas ... make themselves valid again. Handing over WB and Gaza on a silver platter is a small price to pay Rubbing their hands at the prospect of grabbing more land to settle imported Russians on, I guess
