Having watched Phantom Thread in the cinema over Xmas, I realised there was still one film by Paul Thomas Anderson I'd never seen. I'm currently halfway through putting that right having started this beaut last night...
Do you know it? I must say I'm loving it. Getting vibes of The Big Lebowski, Licorice Pizza, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, and, perhaps unsurprisingly, Boogie Nights. All very good reference points from my persepective
I also had a bit of epiphany last night. I realised often when I watch something on a streaming service I feel a bit dissatisfied so I decided I'd go back through my DVDs, some of which I've never seen, like this one
This is so much more satisfying than stuff I've recently been watching (Ghosts, Curb Your Enthusiasm, What We Do In The Shadows - all great in their own way but not quite great enough). This, on the other hand, feels really well made and satisfying with a cast to die for. Given most old DVDs can be picked up for £2-3 off eBay I wonder if this is the way to go for my future televisual satisfaction. I don't watch much so I like to get the really good stuff when I do partake, plus I don't mind watching films in chunks over how every many sittings it requires
