Inspired by the Dinosaurs thread, I decided to listen to this 1995 Ramones album, the band's last studio recording.
I wasn't expecting too much, but I read a few reviews and it seems quite a few punters considered it a return to form. More recent appraisals judge it a worthy final offering.
Johnny Ramone is quoted as saying he thought he had got the best guitar sound he ever had on this record, and it does rip. Strange to hear C.J. Ramone singing on quite a few songs, but maybe this was normal by this stage of their career?
It's actually pretty good, lots of good songs. Oh, and they also cover The Heartbreakers (I Love You) and Tom Waits (I Don't Wannt To Grow Up).

I remember them doing a couple of songs from this on Top of the Pops. I saw their last UK gig (Brixton Academy)

In the back pages of Johnny Ramone's book he includes an 'Album - By Album Assessment' where he goes through all their albums and grades them like a School Report. He have this one, a B+ liking the guitar sound that Daniel Ray got in the mix. Also he praises CJ Ramones contributions on lead vocals. I'd say it's an enjoyable record... not as strong as their first classic four. I agree with Johnny that 'Scattergun' is a great song.
