I was never much of a fan of The Pretenders back in the day but, somewhat belatedly, have come to realise they were pretty damn good What's your view? The Pretenders latest album was released yesterday I've listened to the first five tunes, and based on that, it's blimmin brilliant - much better than I would have expected
Anyone else heard it?

Firstly, if you formed a Pretenders tribute band, what would you call it?
Like them but sometimes Middle of the Road (pun intended). First album rocks but later stuff drifts a little. Heard several tracks from the new album on Radio 6, not quite my thing.
Anyone see the Chrissie Hynde documentary? In it she moans about not being able to find a man. I've emailed her loads of times....

I never liked them back in the day either but I got a compilation CD out of a charity shop and really liked it.
'Back on the Chain Gang'and'Message of Love' are great songs.👍

Thought the first three albums were great mainstream rock. I saw them live in London circa 1983.
Nothing they've done since has grabbed me, though in fairness there's a huge amount I haven't heard.
Might check the new album out on Qobuz if I get bored.

I've never liked Brass In Pocket .
The only song of theirs I ever liked was their sublime version of I Go To Sleep. I'd never heard the albums. Then I heard a song from their third album that was harder rocking then I was aware that they were into
Heard this on an old Peel show I was listening to earlier and I might now invest in their debut album

The Pretenders' self titled debut album was released on this day in 1979, 44 years ago. That's as far back as Gracie Fields was back then.
