As there doesn't seem to be a Wall Of Voodoo thread on here, i shall start one (or a new one)
Such an original band... i guess they could be compared to Devo in sound, but that's still very... VERY oblique as a comparison. The roots of the band were in a Film Soundtrack company their vocalist Stan Ridgway set up just as Punk Rock was kicking off in Los Angeles.
Original members of W.O.V. were from various Punk bands. Like most Brits, their classic single 'Mexican Radio' was my introduction to the band, but they had already released an album (Dark Continent) and a 12" e.p. before that with their amazing cover of 'Ring Of Fire'
I really regret i never got to see the band live (but i did see Stan Ridgway after the first line up had split) But i remember watching this in 1982 and being blown away by it...

Saw them on the bottom of the bill early eighties with the Comsat Angels and headliners U2 at a half full Rock City. Bono and the boys were still up and coming and I did dig Edge's guitar sound but apart from that I can't remember anything more. They have an RSD release this year. Bit pricey. www.roughtrade.com/en-gb/product/wall-of-voodoo/wall-of-voodoo-rsd-2024

...thanks for letting me know PU. There are two W.O.V. releases for RSD Original copies of that first 6 track mini album are still out there in circulation, but not easy to find in the UK. I picked up my copy dirt cheap back in the eighties

...a follow up to my previous mutterings WALL OF VOODOO - LIVE University Of California Nov 22nd 1979 I hadn't made any special plans, regarding the annual over hyped R***** S**** D** this year, but, as ever, there were one or two records i admit i wanted. This is one them. A GREAT live recording from 1979 of this fantastic band, superbly mastered by the original live recording engineer. As it is a limited edition American import, it was bleedin' expensive of course... but still cheaper than paying crazy amounts for Airmail postage. And there was one copy left in the racks so i grabbed it. Hope one day their early demos get the vinyl treatment too. Wall Of Voodoo were the link between: Devo, Martin Rev, Johnny Cash and Ennio Morricone. 🤓😎

I probably mentioned this on the old TalkPunk page, but post W.O.V. Stan also recorded this delightful gem in 1983 with Stewart Copeland for the film 'Rumble Fish'
Everytime i hear this i am back there in time...

Great film and a great song - thanks Andy I'd forgotten all about the song - and it's been far too long since I saw Rumble Fish

Stumbled across this today. Stan on the O.G.W.T. performing tracks from his, debut solo album.
He has such a distinctive vocal style and narrative lyrical chops...
