Loving this in depth exploration of mainstream 70s pop in Britain
I’ll add more when I have time
Always loved the 70s pop I grew up with

The story of Middle of the Road is much more interesting and unexpected than I ever imagined
Middle Of The Road - Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep (1971)

The band thought so too
They had to get quite drunk before recording it
It was only the singer who was into it
Have to say I like it - ridiculously infectious - and still the basis of football chants to this day
The singer has a very unusual voice that just works

Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep is one of the first songs I remember.
If you hear 'where's your mama gone far far away' at a very young age it stays with you

I remember reading vocalist Sally Carr after the death of her mother, found it really hard to carry on singing Chirpy.
