I liked Ringo’s character in the first one but he allegedly dropped out because of an uncomfortable resemblance between the way the fictional band split up and the real-life story of Pete Best 's departure from The Beatles .

Still stands up well. Nick Lowe and Squeeze's Gilson Lavis in the background too.

Both of those Jim Maclaine films are great - amongst my favourites
I've got a BFI DVD set with both films

'That'll be the Day' just edges it I reckon as Stardust gets really bogged down near the end with McLaines'no one understands me I'm a rich rock star'routine.
Still both films are great slice of life rock 'n'roll parodies.
I think they use every cliche in the book but that's the fun of it...and the cameos😀

It's still a good romp but I thought Larry Hagman stole the show a wee bit(didn't he always?)with Adam Faith coming a close second. Some of it was quite shocking for the time and that scene with Essex and the two twins had everyone yapping about it at school the next day.🤩 The ending was predictably pretentious but I suppose that was the point wasn't it?

Yes, the ending was predictable but I remember seeing on first release and feeling sad at MacLaine's spiral downwards, this latest viewing has me thinking he deserves his fate due to his bloated ego. Must be my cynicism in old age.
Good juxtaposition of Hagman as the brash, millionaire Yank and Faith fairground small time hustler.

Aye but even in the first film he was a self centred sod.
Out of order what he did to Adam's dog too🙄
