The late 60s-early 70s series Callan came up on another thread. The title character was one of the first real anti-heroes portrayed on the TV. I had an older brother who was right into this show and I remember watching some of the later series with him. I ended up seeing the earlier series when they repeated the whole lot.
I came across this 2000 interview with lead actor Edward Woodward in which he says a lot about what made the series so special.

I don't really remember Callan that well JSM
I remember it being on but never really paid it much heed
Woodward was great in The Wicker Man though

Always felt sympathetic to Lonely the grass who Callan would bully information out of. The swinging lightbulb explosion opening credits was a fantastic snippet.
