Do Minutemen count as Hardcore? If so, there's another US Hardcore group that I can give the thumbs up to Way more interesting and exciting than most of what's been posted on the Hardcore thread so far Double Nickels on the Dime (1984) is a blast from start to finish, and proof that more imaginative groups can create something new and interesting with the punk rock template. A wonderful 90 seconds, part Talking Heads, part James White, part Gang of Four, part other stuff....

Not a band I'd listen to for pleasure but worthy of respect.
I thought they had more of an 'angular' British new wave sound. Gang of Four like you say and a bit of XTC and the Pop Group too.
Too classy to qualify as 'hardcore' to my ear.

...i wouldn't call them Hardcore either, although they played gigs with many bands that were An amazing prolific trio - i read that when they were on SST records there was something of an intense friendly rivalry between them and Husker Du, to record the most songs. I'd guess that this excellent band was a big influence on them too...

...it's The Plugz, from East Los Angeles, Nigey - one of the bands that tend to get overlooked when people generalise about the early California Punk scene...

They recorded a couple of 7"s and two albums... the first being particularly good, which you can enjoy fully here...

I mean everyone loves Minutemen don't they ? I'd call them hardcore. Well, not the sound but they were part of the same scene.

Don't recall seeing this before
Minutemen - King Of The Hill
What is peace / To the people / Who work the land / And die in wars? / It was learned in a game / That was played by us all / Who held the top of the hill / From the rest was called the king / And I can't believe it all / Was good for humankind / Is it peace / To point the guns? / Is it war / To fire the guns? / We would run with all of our might / Push the king off to take the hill / And to learn who was king / And who makes the better serf / I can't believe it all / Was good for humankind / And I have to read the lies / Between the lines / Believe in this / We are part / Of a whole we call the earth / And I have to read the lies / Between the lines

...it's on their final album which i don't have, not yet anyway. I was a 'Dü' rather than a 'Minute' fan back then. D. Boon must have got mighty giddy rolling down that hill
