What was your first album?
Your first single?
Can you remember the first 2-10?
What were they?
Do you still own them?
Do you still like them?
Do you still listen to them?

My pocket money went up to 10p a week at the end of 72 so singles began to come within reach. They were about 50p
My first three were;
Sweet: 'Block Buster' T Rex: '20th Century Boy' 'Alice Cooper 'Hello Hooray'
Albums eluded me until I got a job cleaning a neighbour's car for 50p a week, albums were like £3 (?)
I think my first one was Elvis' Sun Collection, then 'Silk Degrees' by the Boz, then it was the new wave
I think my mum has the singles somewhere, and yes, I still like all of those records

I recall them being £2.50 when singles were 50 pence so it was an investment I had a paper round in my early teens which I got paid £5 a week but when Xmas time came round I could clear £25 in tips. When I was 15 I got a job in Sainsburys for about 6 months until working Friday night and all day Saturday got a bit inconvenient social-life wise I started working full time when I was 16 and, via the job, could get a lot of vinyl but that's another story for another day

I spent more money on other things apart from records until the new wave then it was records, gigs and clothes, obvs.
74-75 I was big into stamps, then it was chemistry, then electronics and ham radio just prior to the new wave.
I converted a home made intercom into an amp when I got my first electric guitar, which wasn't much good but sufficed until I got my first proper amp.
I was fortunate in that my grandfather ran a youth club in Bournemouth and spent the council's money on singles for his jukebox in the club.
When they came off of the jukebox he let me have my pick. They had a big hole in the middle that you had to fill with one of those adaptor things. I still have loads of them in a drawer, haven't used them since about 1978

The first single i bought with my own money was "JEEPSTER" by T-Rex in 1971
Other early singles were:
Look What You Dun - Slade Hold Your Head Up - Argent Alright Alright Alright - Mungo Jerry This Flight Tonight - Nazareth
My 50p a week pocket money didn't stretch very far... there were sweets, magazines, Corgi/Dinky/Matchbox toy cars to be bought too.
But by 1975 i asked my parents to buy me the "AUTOBAHN" album by Kraftwerk for my 13th Birthday. I didn't realise it at the time, but at that tender age i was listening to the sound of the future...

Comics and magazines you read as a kidtalkpunk.freeforums.net/thread/357/comics-magazines-read-kid
