What I could have done with 50p a week back in 72... it doesn't bear thinking about I was always having to wheel and deal to make my little pittance go further, so I guess it stood me in good stead in a way

I certainly never had that level of cash when it came to sweet shops or toy shops in the 60s Back then an old penny would get you 16 blackjacks or rhubard and custards Paperbacks were about 2/6 in the 60s (12.5 pence) and I remember that buying a book was quite an investment too. Most of the time I relied on the library.

All of the other lads got more as far as I remember, my mate Trev got 50 so he could get LPs. I remember when he got 'The Slider' we spent all day listening to it over and over at his mum's. First pocket money I got was 6d a week when I turned 6

could still get a pretty full bag of sweeties for 6d back in the day IIRC it was around 4 decimal pence for a 1/4 lb of sweets when I got into buying by the bag in 72-73.

You mob were far more sophisticated them me, I think.
I might have bought some Beatles records beforehand, and I also bought Wings, but the first album I definitely remember buying was this. There was a UK version, but with different songs/artisites
The track listing is pretty appalling. There are maybe three good songs on it (A1, A2, A4 [which is actually pretty crap as well, but I think that was the reason I bought the whole thing]:
A1 –Slade Mama Weer All Crazee Now A2 –Band Of Light The Destiny Song A3 –Lobo (3) Don't Expect Me To Be Your Friend A4 –Loudon Wainwright III Dead Skunk A5 –Miss Linda George* Neither One Of Us (Wants To Be The First To Say Goodbye) A6 –Bluestone (3) Wind And Rain A7 –Petula Clark Wedding Song (There Is Love) A8 –Brian Cadd Every Mother's Son A9 –Donny Osmond Too Young A10 –Mr. George (3) So Much Love (In My Heart) B1 –Little Jimmy Osmond Tweedlee Dee B2 –Albert Hammond It Never Rains In Southern California B3 –The Bootleg Family* Wake Up Australia B4 –Billy Paul Me And Mrs. Jones B5 –Thump'n Pig & Puff'n Billy Captain Straight Man B6 –G. Wayne Thomas Everything In You B7 –Troupadores By The Devil (I Was Tempted) B8 –Rod Kirkham I Can't Get Sunday Out Of My Mind B9 –Jon English (3) Handbags And Gladrags B10 –Doug Parkinson Dear Prudence
I've got lots of these super hits LPs and most of them are much better this one

First piece of music I ever paid for was Aphex Twin’s “Syro” on the iTunes Store when that came out for £8. The first physical piece of music I bought was “F # A # Infinity” by Godspeed You! Black Emperor and I paid $280 CAD for that one and thus I was sent inexorably down the record collecting rabbit hole.
There are less expensive hobbies out there.

I'm not sure if it was Ole Ola by the Scottish World Cup Squad and Rod Stewart or Rivers of Babylon. But I know shortly after this I bought No One Is Innocent / My Way after reading an interview with Cook and Jones in the Daily Mirror defending the banned single.
First LP was some mid '78 compilation that had Because the Night and Denis on it.
