I've been playing a lot of Pete Wylie and his various Wah incarnations (probably more name changes than Spizz?)
I think a lot of it really stands up well
Undeniably the least talented of the Julian Cope / Ian McCulloch / PW crucial three trio but still pretty damn fine
What's yer verdict?
Shambeko! Say Wah! - Remember (1982)
The Mighty Wah! - The Story Of The Blues Part 1 (1982)

Songs of Strength and Heartbreak from 2000 is one that slipped under the classics radar. Chock full of heart on the sleeve anthems, Big As Liverpool now second to You'll Never Walk Alone for the Red Scousers.
Probably the reason that he is not as 'big' as he should be, is that he would never play ball with the music media. He seemed to always want to say what a bastard Thatcher was rather than promote his records. Commercial suicide but good for him.

Yes, agree with all of that He really didn't play the game The Story Of The Blues could have been a big turning point He still does plenty of benefit gigs - definitely one of the good guys so far as I can make out Heart As Big As Liverpool is a wonderful anthem - it would make me proud to be a Scouser had life turned out differently Julian Cope had a parody version on his 2017 Drunken Songs LP called... Liver Big As HartlepoolHere he is explaining all at a recent(ish) gig (By the way Julian Cope live is a totally joy, as much stand up as musician - don't miss him when he comes to your town) Julian Cope - Liver Big As Hartlepool at the Roundhouse 4th February 2017

My favourite Pete Wylie song.
Agree with PU in that he never 'made' it cos he was a gobby scouse left winger.
He was wrong about Militant but he's a good bloke.

Hope (I Wish You'd Believe Me) is absolutely superb. And should have been a big hit.
