I find a couple of songs off'Miami' quite interesting but generally they were a bizarre country goth band.
They paled into insignificance compared to the true innovators of the day like Crucifucks and Flipper.

I prefer the earlier stuff which is more reminiscent of The Cramps than goth They paled into insignificance compared to the true innovators of the day like Crucifucks and Flipper. Based on my limited knowledge I disagree with that assertion It's all subjective though and, as we know, subjectivity is just a difference of opinion about the merit of different artists and their tunes

My copy of 'Miami' comes with a live show which I find a lot more exciting but didn't they fall into that whole goth subculture?
'Limited knowledge'
That phrase always seems to crop up in your posts with frightening regularity
Strange seeing as you're a self styled 'muso'.👌
I would give anything a go but in the end up you just like what you like.😎

Self styled muso? WTF?
I am passionate and music, and quite obsessive about some artists, but, to me, muso suggests a level of knowledge that I cannot claim
Generally I am broader rather than deeper if you know what I mean

The point is I'd you don't like it, you don't like it, I have absolutely no problem with that as it's only music.
I don't usually comment on things that I haven't heard or don't like but I can certainly say that when I don't like something is usually because I've given them a good go as it's only fair.
However, theres lots of reasons why I don't like music and that's could mean because of the people involved in and what they are as human beings.
Most musicians are egotistical baffoons to some degree anyway.
As for the Gun Club, I like the singers vocals(very Bunnymen) and the general guitar sound although the country influence ruins it for me.

I remember The Gun Club started to get music press coverage in the UK at the same time as The Cramps... around 1980/81 and i took more notice of the Cramps with the limited budget i had for vinyl-junkiedom
Two very different bands to my ears, the Cramps were about fusing 60s Garage/Psyche/Punk with Rockabilly... with a B-Movie fixation The Gun Club were more influenced by Delta Blues and Country Music. There are links between them and one of my all time favourite L.A. Punk bands The Bags
The first two Gun Club albums are fabulous... but i'm starting to revisit the later albums more of late. I like this alot from their 1990 album 'Pastoral Hide & Seek'

Thanks Andy. I don't know the 1990 album 'Pastoral Hide & Seek' at all - that tune Flowing, which is wonderful, suggests I should investigate further

...as complete albums, their later releases don't 'grab me' as much as their early recordings, but still worth dipping into.
This is another great song from Pastoral Hide & Seek (IMO)
