I'm not really sure whether early Swans (pre-1986) can be called punk or whether they were a different beast, a Hardcore/No Wave/Noise-art monstrosity. Any road up, their first two albums are about as far from easy listening as it's possible to get. Actually, the first two Swans albums sound like a steel pressing factory with a neanderthal howling over the top of the noise. I love it. The first time I saw Swans (1985) was a physically and psychologically bruising, extreme, almost frightening experience. They only played for about 25 minutes, causing unsatisfied punters to smash the stage lights, and Michael Gira wore only a nappy (diaper) throughout the gig. I remember a review in the British music press, by a writer called Jack Barron, of my first Swans gig. He wrote that the sheer physical effect of the sonic barrage gave him an erection đ˛. Fortunately, it didn't have that effect on me or I'd have left the venue with knob ache. It was impossible to dance to the music at an early period Swans gig. All you could do was to bang your head, v e r y s l o w l y. youtu.be/edyKvdCqodQ (how do you post YouTube clips on this site ?)

Swans are really interesting, theyâve (he, I guess) restarted the Swans project back In 2010 and has since released several critically-acclaimed records albeit in more of a post-rock/experimental style. Michael Gira is a fucking weirdo but is one of the all-time greats for me when you consider the vast amount of quality material heâs released. I met him at a show in Newcastle a few years ago and he said he liked my name despite it being like the white manâs version of Mohammad (Jack). Lol.

I well remember Swans featuring in the music press quite reguarly and getting big love from many critics
I never really liked what I heard
Listening to that song you posted Bassy - Half Life - I feel much the same way
That said, any group that gives males in the audience an erection must have something going for them
I cranked up Half Life to max volume but nothing stirred!

You might like some of their post-reunion stuff as itâs a lot less noisy and industrial than their older stuff.
