Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me....as a 16 year old seeing them live (first gig ever) after hearing them on BBC (Janice long and John Peel) it was explosive....they really were good live...having thought about it maybe Springsteen was better (50+ concerts)..or the Stones...or the Kinks...or the Who...Or Costello..or Neil Young...or Oasis...or ACDC...or Ultravox..or Ray Davies's storytelling tour...or Paul McCartney..or Randy Newman..or Nick Cave...or Depeche Mode many times
Go listen to "shirt of blue"...great live song

Discharge on the Apocalypse tour in 1981. Just at the height of their epoch with'Why'. Conflict playing the east end of Glasgow in early 84. The 'troops' came out but Conflict weren't having it Would love to have seen Discharge on that tour, I bought all their stuff on release back then but never got to see them at the time.
I never really warmed to Conflict but should have been seeing them play with Rubella Ballet last night, but for obvious reasons...
Did you ever take photo's at gigs back then? I used to and have quite a few of the local scene (Bristol) from 82/83 and some from gigs I hitched to in London. Happy days.
Sadly, very few photos exist. Unlike now taking photos would probably be deemed to be not very punk and most punks back then would have probably thought you were a spy for the social...๐ Discharge were blistering especially Bones. The Exploited were absolute rank and couldn't play. I loved Conflict up until 'The Ungovernable Force' and saw them twice in 84 at the height of their powers when 'Increase the Pressure' was released and they just blew everyone away and that was probably down to the charisma of Colin. An amazing front man. Also, absolutely sensational both nights were Icons of Filth, totally underated. The next time I saw Conflict was Leeds University where there was a police riot. Some shocking scenes and an absolutely inflammatory atmosphere as everyone knew what was going to happen.

I had a cheapo 110 camera and managed to get some decent photos, especially considering the amount of snakebite I used to get through
Can imagine Exploited being shit, I never liked them.
I'll revisit Conflict and have another listen before I go to see them (if the gig ever happens).

I remember when you used to get searched everywhere to see if you were smuggling in a camera and you'd get thrown out on your arse if they caught you. Don't know if there was a deal with licensed photography firms as I remember my local record shop also sold professional style gig photos of pretty much every London gig. At least that cat's out the bag.

I've seen Conflict a couple of times since then and they don't pack the same punch live. I doubt they could replicate it but if you like the likes of Discharge/Antisect sound Conflict came close with below. Blew my fuckin' socks off at the time actually๐
