Let's celebrate Richard Hell Undisputedly a key player in the history of punk rock He co-founded both the Neon Boys, and Television with Tom Verlaine, in the early 70's Also a member of the first incarnation of The Heartbreakers with Jerry Nolan and Johnny Thunders and co-writer of the classic 'Chinese Rocks' with Dee Dee Ramone. Richard Hell's spiky hair and ripped clothes look was 'borrowed' by Malcolm McLaren 'Blank Generation' became a byword punk What's yer verdict?

I only recently got into this artist...I got the 'Blank Generation' CD at a used shop. Great stuff for sure!

The Heartbreakers soon dumped him for his ego problems and giving orders to everyone about what they could play or sing on, always seems completely up his own arse. Undeniably did some great early stuff, never lived up to the promise though IMHO. Never rated much after the Voidoids debut album. Mind you, Always thought Verlaine was hugely overrated too.

Never rated much after the Voidoids debut album. Never did much music-wise did he? Just that one tune... had his look together, though.

Bit more than just one tune
The whole debut album still sounds fresh
More sophisticated than many of the era and with a couple of great guitarists - Robert Quine and Ivan Julian

The whole debut album still sounds fresh That is what struck me as well...it didn't sound dated at all.

Quine of course played a lot with Lou Reed.

They were right at the forefront of the New Wave but it washed over them.
