I don't know how many William Shakespeare fans there are in the house. If you are like me, you might have studied him in school, seen one or two of his plays, or tried to read them, but stumbled over the Elizabethan English. Or maybe you have seen some of the films of his plays. You almost certainly know something about him and his most famous works, such as Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet, King Lear etc.
In this book, Rush has Shakespeare tell us his life story from his death bed. The title, Will, refers to both the bard himself and to the will he is dictating to his lawyer. At the same time, he tells the lawyer, an old friend, everything secret about his life, his life as an actor and playwright in London, the life of that town in his era, the intricacies of the royal court, his rather wild sex life, his lost love for Anne Hathaway, the tradgedy of his only son's death and how all of this was reflected in his plays, sonnets and other productions. It is often highly amusing. Worth a read even if you know little about the man from Stratford.
Ben Kingsley bought the film rights, but it seems nothing has been done with it. It would make a good film
