ZOUNDS in their original form were/are my favourite band to emerge from the early 80s UK Anarcho Punk scene. Rather than go in for monotone ranting, effing & blinding at breakneck speed, they went about their subversion in a rather more subtle melodic fashion which set them apart. Their run of singles and first album Curse Of Zounds really made an impact on me in my early 20s
This isn't my favourite song by them, but it is one of their most haunting...

They were different from the run of the mill groups in that scene. They were a bit older, and they could play.
I saw them support somebody, forgotten who, at the Lyceum, and they were great, but their singer had a Leo Sayer type barnet, which was hard to accept.
Their best effort was this one, to my ear

One of the best bands from that whole scene.
The second LP 30 odd years later was pretty darn good as well.

I don't recall anyone from Zounds having a full blown 'Perm' - guitarist Laurence Wood did have curly Leo Sayer hair though which he grew quite 'big' for a while, but hey... so did Adam Ant. For me, once Laurence left the band, the music they made was never as good again.

Despite rating Killing Joke highly I also struggled to accept Jaz Coleman on account of his lack of a proper 'new wave' barnet. I was a bit shallow back then.
