Apart from them appearing on a South Park episode many years ago, this band have never been on my radar. However, over the weekend I got a joblot of their back catalogue in, some on vinyl which is collectable. It's termed Nu Metal which means little to me but it really does rock, the wig out sections remind me of Rage Against The Machine. I will play some more tomorrow and probably hate it.
Any fans here?

Never got the gist of these bands, Korn, Linkin Park, Suicidal Tendencies, Limp Bizkit, etc. Apart from the occasional song. Broody, doomy introspective verses and self-hating lyrics followed by bug-out screaming thrash choruses.. They're all American, so it's probably the medication they're on..?  |

I've always been wary of big American metal groups
I remember coming home on a commuter train and encountering a bunch of kids who were on their way back from the Download festival
The music they were playing was so insanely awful I asked them what it was
They were playing it loud to piss of the straights or something
They told me it was Slipknot
I thanked them and said it was truly awful - they agreed

Korn playing Scarborough Open Air Theatre in the summer! Was tempted but at £90 a ticket, I'm going to pass.

£50 is still my upper limit - most gigs I go to are between £5 and £30

I do miss living in a larger town/city sometimes. We get very little up here after Covid, so it's either the big theatre at £60 plus or local bands for free. The small venues became financially unviable and the ten to twenty five quid gigs have virtually disappeared.

Part of that whole Limp Bizcuit, Slipknot scene? Can't say I evert took it seriously, I think even the US had problems of violence with those bands as their fan types were the worst kind of obnoxious "frat boys". I saw a documentary on Woodstock '94? which highlighted those bands and their audience problems.

TRAINWRECK: WOODSTOCK '99 - it's on Netflix Compelling stuff Seem to recall it was Limp Bizcuit who really whipped the crowd into an orgy of violence Though in fairness there were all kinds of other issues about the event organisation which contributed to it to being so violent and generally catastrophic |

I have always steered well clear of Nu Metal. The bands seem to follow a predictable and tedious template.

Could be worse Andy, I have to put up with cataloguing Nu Black Metal. Not only does the music, note for note, sound the same but the band covers titles and track listings are indecipherable. Some of the fuckers don't even put information on the label, so you don't even know which is side 1 or 2. Had one in the other week, played it at 33rpm and heard a bloke singing, actually should be played at 45 because it's a female vocalist. Example: This band is called Duellist.  |
