When are people going to start talking about how Talk Talk were one of the best British acts ever? Smashed it for six on their last three albums and even the releases before that were great.
RIP Mark Hollis

I think they are pretty well regarded Smog. Certainly those later albums had a substantial cult following.
Have you heard Rustin Man? Paul Webb's group.
The Rustin Man collaboration with Beth Gibbons of Portishead is really something special

The Rustin Man collaboration with Beth Gibbons of Portishead is really something special Ye I’ve got an original copy on vinyl, love the hell out of that record Rustin Man is the pseudonym of Mr. Webb I believe, he didn’t release an album for seventeen years until last year and he’s just released a decent single for his upcoming album. He’s starting to perform live again too. Hopefully I’ll be able to see him and get him to sign my Talk Talk records! (That is if I’m not getting blasted up the chutney by some big lads in prison lol)

Talk Talk: In A Silent WayDir. Gwenaël Breës, Belgium, 2020, 90 min SCREENING (UK PREMIERE + Q&A): 07 November 2020 at 15:00 Barbican Cinema Screen 1 30 years after the release of Talk Talk’s fourth album Spirit of Eden, superfan of the 1980s British art-rock band - Belgian director Gwenaël Breës - found himself crisscrossing the country in an attempt to unravel the mystery surrounding the record. The problem? Up to his death in 2019 lead singer Mark Hollis notoriously declined all interview requests and the rest of the band has followed suit, refusing to allow their music to be used on film. Armed with a boom mic, Breës must attempt the impossible - to make a film about a band that does not want to be filmed, and tell the story of the ultimate art rock album without playing the record. His journey becomes an organic quest with silence as a horizon line and punk as a philosophy, as he contends, despite all obstacles, that music is accessible to all and the human spirit is above technique.Doc’n Roll Film Festival is supported by the BFI using funds from the National Lottery to grow audience appetite and enjoyment for a wide range of independent British and international films.More here: www.docnrollfestival.com/films/talk-talk-in-a-silent-way/

Best group of the 80s
‘Colour of Spring’ was on heavy rotation in my shared flat back in the day. One of my flatmates was working as a studio engineer during the recording of ‘Spirit of Eden’. He told us we were in for a surprise and by golly we were.

In the mid to late 80s, mainstream Pop music was pretty dire... Mullets and Power shoulders dominated... with a few exceptions, it was just awful Talk Talk were a bigger band in mainland Europe than they were here. They were one of the few 'chart bands' i would listen to. They were in a class of their own.
This clip is rather special to me, as it features my good friend Alan Griffiths on guitar. I knew him from the days of his band The Escape When they split he worked with various bands before joining Tears For Fears in the 90s. RIP Alan & Mark.
