Got an Email this morning to say my copy is on the way. Did you get the one with the CDR of rarities and signed by the band? No, I saved the extra few bob, I am buying too many of these "special" edition thingies, I can understand why they do it, but even £20 for a book is really pushing it I think as we have discussed elsewhere I believe. It's a nice sized substantial book and perhaps I am just being miserly but it seem to be about getting the maximum possible out of a loyal but limited readership. May have something to do with just having got my leccy bill in when I ordered it, too.

I've got to admit the price tag is putting me off. I probably will snap up a copy as I know I'll enjoy it but, like everything these days, it ain't cheap
I do get it's a labour of love and Paul is probably only covering his costs, or maybe making a small return

I've got to admit the price tag is putting me off. I probably will snap up a copy as I know I'll enjoy it but, like everything these days, it ain't cheap I do get it's a labour of love and Paul is probably only covering his costs, or maybe making a small return I think it wold depend if it were being done as "print on demand" or as a limited run and then down to numbers in the run. I would expect a 100% mark up though, but of course it's years of work that have gone into it and again, how many copies can you flog? As with an argument I have always made for lower priced tickets at gigs and football, You'd probably sell a lot more copies if you priced it more competitively, especially given that the target market is of an age that sees £20 as a lot of money compared to younger people who don't blink an eye spending that on a take away pizza. Most books of this sort I think should be going for about the £13 mark, at that price I buy, any dearer and I tend to avoid or stick on a birthday or Xmas list and leave it to fate if anyone is kind enough to buy it. None of this is in any way meant as criticism of Paul, the sheer depth and quality of his Roxy book was astonishing and that is the reason I grabbed a copy of this, it is just a comment on the pricing structures of books on certain esoteric subjects for limited audiences.

i think, considering Paul is doing this all on his own, it's a limited print run and the cost of getting it printed and bound, £20 is very reasonable. If it was being printed by the million, then it's cost would obviously be less.

Twenty quid for a niche subject, small print run is very fair.

Cheers Stu. Good interview with Paul and Noel. Especially the chat about Jill Furmanovsky, Miles Copeland and Step Forward

'GLC' came into my head randomly today whilst showering, and later on whilst taking my shoes off in the porch it was 'H-Eyes', the flip side of the Ruts' debut single.
Today has been like something out of a new wave version of the 'X Files'

MENACE - DEATH & TAXES Menace have been out there (on and off) playing pure Street Punk… DECADES before the moniker ever appeared. They shared stages with kindred spirits, e.g. Sham 69 at the Roxy Club way back in 1977. But while Mr Pursey & Co went on, to appearing on Jim’ll Fix it, Menace always kept it ‘real’ playing the pubs and clubs, often having to endure appalling violence on their own. Original drummer (and now lead singer) Noel Martin has been a constant in all that time as the line up has inevitably changed. They are, perhaps best known for their run of classic singles from 1977 to 1980, and then there was a break of almost 20 years before they started releasing records again and touring to promote them. They have been releasing new music on a regular basic ever since. This latest album finds the band casting a weary and satirical eye on the modern world, but thankfully, with their (witty) tongues in their cheeks in places. Ten tracks that clock in at around four minutes each with room for some very tasty guitar work and a sublime and very touching ballad to close out side two. Over the years, they have retained a loyal following, particularly in London. Those hardcore fans will not be disappointed by this record. It is available direct from the band in three different variations. Being something of a collector nerd/vinyl junkie, i pushed the boat out and went for the ‘Fully Loaded’ bonus signed poster & postcards option. The packaging and care that has gone into this self released record is MIGHTY impressive!

The band don't have a Bandcamp page, so if downloads is your thing, then sadly, you won't get to hear this album. But a CD pressing is on the way
