Back in the 70's there was a hardware shop in Winchester that used to serve solvents to teenage punx who staggered in with their breath stinking of solvents, over and over again.

Another odd Harrods fact: until the Endangered Species Act was passed in 1976, you could buy large wild animals in the shop's Pet Kingdom. Ronald Reagan received a gift of an elephant purchased there, and in 1951 Noël Coward got a live alligator for Christmas.

I saw a documentary about a couple who had a lion bought at Harrods. They lived in a flat and exercised the lion in the yard of a nearby church. They later let it loose in Africa. There's a lot of videos about this story on youtube. Best to turn off the sound if you watch any. They all seem to have nauseating emotional music
