Was listening to a John Peel programme from August 1978 last night.
In session were Blast Furnace and Snivelling Shits or the Hits as they became .
Charles Shaar Murray was singer of Blast Furnace and Giovanni Dadomo singer of Snivelling Shits. I suspect Snivelling Shits was some kind of piss take of punk but they actually sounded OK.
I know Lester Bangs had flirtations with being a singer and of course Nick Kent . Mick Farren - was he in a band before becoming a writer ? Edwin Pouncey AKA Savage Pencil was in the Art Attacks Everett True I think dabbled
Anyone else ?

I can't think of any Australian punk equivalents, but from an earlier era Ian 'Molly' Meldrum was a rock journalist and also record producer. One of his most famous productions was Russell Morris's 'Real Thing' from 1969, notorious because it cost so much, took so long for Meldrum to complete, and the finished article was over six minutes, considered far too long for radio. It soon became a hit and also charted in some parts of the USA. It is generally now considered to be an Oz psychedelic classic
There was an equally long sequel

There's quite a few the other way too: musicians who became (or are also) writers/journalists

I'm not a big Pet Shop Boys fan but I quite like some of their songs
