Marquee Moon was an astonishing debut though I'll admit I didn't recognise that at the time
It's my album of the day today
So, Television...
Punk pioneers especially given original bassist Richard Hell arguably created the punk look What's yer verdict?

One of those groups I overlooked in favour of the UK punk groups at the time... seminal, for sure.

I bought the 12 inch single of the title track first, an astounding nine minutes of sonic wonder. The album was brilliant too. The follow up Adventure was always going to be in the shadow of the debut but it's a good record all the same. It would be fourteen years before they made another one, again not Marquee Moon but very enjoyable all the same.

*Television - Marquee Moon (1977)*
I first realised that Television were something special when I heard John Peel play Little Johnny Jewel which still remains my favourite song by Television.
Marquee Moon was an astonishing debut though I'll admit I didn't recognise that at the time. I didn’t really listen to it properly until recording it off a friend in the early 1980s.
I’m a bit out of step with critical consensus in that I like it a lot but I am not sure it’s quite the masterpiece that many claim. The title track is still stunning, the overall sound laid down the template for much of what became post-punk, the guitar interplay between Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd is arresting, the songs are good, but - for whatever reason - it’s not an album I play in its entirety very often and that’s because I find it a bit one note. It’s all good but, on balance, I prefer ex-Television bassist Richard Hell’s Blank Generation to Marquee Moon. Crazy talk huh?
7/10

Heresy. You would have been burned at the stake 40 years ago.

I would agree with Nige on this the title track is brilliant but the rest is quite samey.
Not the worst record by s country mile. I always used to give it a spin after fighting the system from dawn to dusk👍

A mate bought it (Marquee Moon) when it was new and I made a tape. I always reckoned it was brilliant, although I never tried to follow up on Verlaine's other work.
You cannot compare Television and The Voidoids except to note they are completely different types of music. Voidoids = punk. Television = post-punk (even if it did come out in early 1977)
