Sid died 42 years ago today That's as far in the past as George Formby was back in the punk days... sobering thought.

Would Sid have became the bellend Rotten has become? We'll never know.
He wasn't always the fool that he was made out to be.
RIP Sidney.

He wasn't always the fool that he was made out to be. RIP Sidney. Out of curiosity what makes you say that? I've heard other people make similar comments Seemed like a complete idiot Danny Baker tells a story of Sid trying to intimidate some mates of his into giving him 50 pence (50 pence!) outside the Rainbow. Only DB knew who he was. One of DB's mates told him to fuck off and then ended up having to knock him out as he kept persisting with his ridiculous demands for 50 pence. He was also dim enough to end up with Spungeon and get addicted to heroin I expect he was a sweet guy when he was straight and with nothing to prove but he seemed to believe his own hype and, well, the rest is a tragic story of a wasted life

That scene when he was sitting in that deckchair from the 'Filth and the Fury'.
His appraisal of his bandmates and McLaren was succinct and intelligent.

That scene when he was sitting in that deckchair from the 'Filth and the Fury'. His appraisal of his bandmates and McLaren was succinct and intelligent. True, he was quite articulate and seemed to have a good relationship with Julien Temple He also comes over quite well in Viv Albertine's first book There's also a lot of contrary evidence too. Maybe smart but with flawed judgement? Suspect his upbringing was quite messed up. I know someone who briefly dated his Mum when he was a toddler and his memories suggest Sid/John was v neglected as a child

I suppose other than Cook and Matlock, you could say all the Pistols had fucked up childhoods.
Of course he made a lot of mistakes but who hasn't?

Sid was only 21 when he died, a young kid with all that fame is gonna make mistakes.I am not even famous and at his age I screwed up plenty of times, I made some idiot descisions back then too.I feel sorry for Sid to be honest.

Steve Jones thought Sid was another student type like Rotten.
I don't know if anyone watches Dr Todd Grande psychology videos on YouTube but I'd love to hear his analysis of the Sid Vermorel interviews. I'd guess he had some kind of antisocial personality disorder - the violence , misanthropic attitude and abuse of animals. I remember Albertine saying on the Radio 4 Sid documentary that she thought he was very intelligent but just couldn't be bothered with conformity.
