Anyone rate his early solo albums ?
I only really know the singles (Biko, Solsbury Hill, Games Without Frontiers etc)
I've always hated Sledgehammer then again none of the 70s superstars did much i liked after about 1984.

I quite like him, though could not, in all honesty, unequivocally recommend any of the albums
I've always really loved Solsbury Hill

He's quite a pioneer in promoting world music. I too don't like Sledgehammer or the song Big Time, trying to be Talking Heads? But his early albums are great, try Melt the third album, standout is Family Snapshot, eerie tale about an abandoned child who becomes a presidential killer. And later,of course, Don't Give Up, the duet with Kate Bush.

Not an artist I'd choose to listen to, but his solo work is infinitely preferable to his work with Genesis, a group utterly devoid of value.

A rare event, a new Peter Gabriel track from the album coming sometime this year. Sounds good.

I like the idea of Peter Gabriel better than the reality but there’s no doubting his talent and his ability to make accomplished and enduring music.
I also admire his tireless promotion of music from around the globe, New World Studios, and setting up WOMAD. I think we can safely say he’s one of the good guys.
Solsbury Hill remains an all time favourite. I’ve loved that tune since first hearing it as a boy and it still makes me excited and happy whenever I play it. Games Without Frontiers is another winner. If I never hear Sledgehammer again I wouldn’t care. The over familiarity of the MTV years has bred a certain contempt, and in any event it’s just too commercial and shiny, too eager to please, and the singles were too reliant on inventive videos (that got annoying after repeated exposure).
All that said, I am still quite partial to a bit of PG and my first impressions of I/O (2023) are pretty positive, it’s a really impressive collection
Everything has already been released but it's all new to me
Worth a try if you like his schtick
