Nice guitar riff notwithstanding, that Vice Creems 45 was not the most compelling example of a journo doing the punk rock, I'll grant you

The Quads - There Must Be Thousands (1979)
‘There Must Be Thousands,’ the debut record release of Birmingham band The Quads was John Peel’s Single of the Decade. His consistent support on his now-legendary radio show was largely responsible for the record reaching Number 66 on the UK Charts in 1979.

Following the Rezillos split in 1978, Jo Callis, Angel Patterson and Simon Templer regrouped as Shake. Culture Shock was penned by Callis and had already featured as part of the Rezillos live set

...Jo Callis has had a chequered career, when you look into all the bands he's been involved in, over the years, (really) big and small Boots For Dancing, Shake, Rezillos, The Human League... for starters This is an interesting release from 1985

More mod than punk but with a punk sensibility
Cop a load of Listen To Your Radio (1981) by Donkees/The Donkeys
West Yorkshire band The Donkeys debuted in June 1979 with "What I Want," initially released independently before being picked up by Deram - an indie-to-major process that was subsequently repeated with "Don't Go," which resulted in a deal with MCA

...ACE band. They released a run of great singles, but sadly never got to record an album. But there are compilations that mop up all the singles, plus demos... i think one of them is called 'Television Anarchy'

ALL THE A&B SIDES, THE BANDS FIRST EVER DEMO BEFORE THEY GOT SIGNED, ALTERNATIVE VERSIONS, LOADS OF UNRELEASED TRACKS AND A SPLATTERING OF FAVOURITE LIVE TRACKS.
