The middle class always need self authentication.
It's a social inferiority complex. It stems from their need to manage people.
They're always 'middle class' when it comes to money(and the comfortable smugness which is mandatory with it).
They continuously feel the need to assimilate into working class culture-whether its good or bad-because they have no culture of their own.
Hence, Belle and Sebastian's obsession with working class Glasgow of the 40's/50's etc

But what does middle class mean these days? Does it even exist? Meanwhile, keeping it on track, this is a good B&S tune... Belle and Sebastian - The Blues Are Still BlueOnly the middle class deny the class system. Especially from 'middle' England. The life expectancy in the Calton for working class men is lower than Baghdad. What does that tell you

Of course there are significant socio-economic inequalities
That doesn't change the fact that the terms "middle class" and "working class" have lost all meaning in 21st century Britain

I've created this new thread for the class discussion - distinct from the Belle and Sebastian discussion

The middle class also like 'facts' and figures.
It's the 'manager' in them.
The constant need to self authenticate.

I know it's not true. You deal in broadbrush stereotypes that are no longer fit for purpose

Subjective.
Maybe in wealthy Brighton.
Not in Glasgow.
