Last week i watched some really good documentaries about the Go-Go’s and Joan Jett. They have alot in common in that they BOTH had to bulldoze and plough their way through a mountain the size of Everest of male chauvinism and misogyny in the music industry and the audience that fed it. I have particular respect for Joan Jett for her dedication and direct involvement during the campaign to find the murderer of Mia Zapata in the 90s. It’s good that they all survived the worst of what the media and music industries can do to you and have prevailed. There would have been no Bikini Kill, Hole, L7, Babes In Toyland, Pussy Riot and many more without them.

I must admit, first time round, i wasn't really paying them much attention... they weren't 'Punk' enough for me in my feral youth - but when they reformed in the 90s i began to appreciate how good they are and how important they were/are in the grand scheme of things - they never had any big hit records here, but were huge in America and beyond.
Till i watched this documentary i had no idea what a baptism of fire it was for them touring with Madness in the UK

only seen abit of it and it seems down 2 earth. what female artists had to put up with was/is well out of order. fair play to them sticking with it. more power to them all.

i love learning about the smaller details of a bands career - in the Go-Go's case... e.g. trying and failing to get arrested during the making of their first video - borrowing expensive towels they could not afford from a posh department store, for the photo-shoot of their first album.
